Big Bird Day

Crow's Nest
This morning we found a baby crow stuck on the ground under a picnic table at Hawkins Park.  Fearing Kip would eat it, we took a shirt and gently corralled it, checked to see if wings and everything looked to be in working order, which they did, and then we left the bird on top of the restroom building at Hawkins Park, with the shirt as his temporary nest.
My hope was that the Mom would come get the baby, or at least an owl or hawk would get to eat  instead of a dog.  We went inside, and Rose reminded me to check on the shirt about two hours later.
Well, no idea what happened to the baby crow.  Or my shirt.  When we went back, there were no sign of either of them.  It's possible a large crow could have carried both, but not likely.  Probably a person took both.  I have no idea.

Deja Flew

So we played some frisbee instead, when we had another crazy bird experience.  We where tossing the frisbee back and forth over the little canal in Hawkins, when a little bird like a robin came flying up the canal, super low altitude, super fast, and did a crazy awkward landing right in between me & Rose.
The bird seemed a bit dazed, and the current is strong right now, so he was struggling to stay afloat.
I reached down and offered the Aerobie as a perch.
To my astonishment, he climbed aboard.

Perhaps the bird was just stunned,
as humans often are when they see me in a cowboy hat.

So, obviously I was worried that we had some bad mojo or something.  Maybe the bird was hurt.  Maybe the crow had been hurt too.  Just as I was starting to think about where to put him, he suddenly flew off, just fine.  Landed on a lilac bush, hopped around for a bit, then flew off again over a house and away.
He was just visiting us.  Wild.

Rose's given Chinese name is Qiang Wei, which means wild rose.
The rose's are starting to bloom, both at the park and in our garden.
Another great day of homeschool!
