Ode to Shrek

The Maah Daah Hey is just the most visible of a number of amazing rides this summer.  I've ridden over 1000 amazing miles on Shrek already since I got him, and he just gets better and better.
Shrek is my 2014 Trek Farley Fatbike.  Still working on a full component breakdown, which I'll post soon, but highlights are HED Big Deal Wheels, and a 1x10 drivetrain.
It's my first fatbike so I can't compare with any expertise to other fatbikes, other than to give mad props to Trek, because at $2,699 they packed enough value and design into the bike is clearly a shot at bikes like Mukluk Ti, Beargrease, Borealis Yampa, and 907, more so than Surly's and Mukluk 3's.  This means that Shrek is often battling it out in races against bikes worth twice as much.
Compared to "normal" mtbs, the fatbike experience has been great so far.  The lighter wheels are key, but once you get those, it's a really enjoyable riding experience.  Going back to a rigid bike has been one of the big benefits as well, simply for the lack of maintenance.  I love suspension, but the maintenance intervals on modern shocks and forks are ludicrous, especially for those of us who don't live near a shop that can do it.  I'd need to shocks and two forks to realistically bike these days, just to be able to swap as I sent the other one in for a rebuild.
Anyway, here's to Shrek!!!
